About Nikat Charitable Association

Nikat Charitable Association is a community-based organization founded by sex workers to promote the rights, health, and well-being of women engaged in sex work. The organization advocates for access to health services, fights stigma and discrimination, and empowers women through education, economic support, and leadership development programs.

Guided by principles of dignity and equality, Nikat works closely with local and international partners to ensure that every woman, regardless of her background or circumstances, is respected and supported in her journey towards empowerment and self-reliance.

Our Story

Nikat Charitable Association is the only sex worker-led organization in Ethiopia, established in April 2010 by women who were formerly involved in sex work. Officially registered, Nikat has been at the forefront of advocating for the rights of sex workers and enhancing access to sexual and reproductive health services.

Over the years, Nikat has made significant strides in promoting dignity and respect for sex workers, addressing stigma and discrimination, and ensuring that their voices are heard. The organization has garnered international recognition for its impactful work, notably receiving the prestigious 2010 Red Ribbon Award for outstanding community leadership.

Through advocacy, empowerment, and collaboration, Nikat continues to champion the rights and health of sex workers in Ethiopia, striving for a society where their dignity and human rights are protected, respected, and fulfilled.
